Give me dignity by showing me grace
Lend me a soft bed while I leave this place
Exhibit compassion to my owner, even when you have had a long day
Their thoughts are racing, and they cannot find the words to say
Let your hand be steady when my catheter you place
You have been here a hundred times, yet I feel the sadness that you have learned to embrace
Know always, that we do not fear an end
When we have lived a full life, and have been such a good friend
Ease my owner’s troubled mind, when they question their choice
After all, you have taken the oath to become my voice
Never allow them to feel that my passing was so hard
That they might never long for another dog to play in the yard
To honor my memory, only one choice is clear, give another life meaning and the owner that I held so dear
Remind them of this technician and friend, for the blessed day will arrive when we shall see them once again.
