And the Summer Started

My fourth semester as a veterinary technician is now completed and the feeling is bittersweet. This semester I feel as if I have been pushed to the limit, I am tired, my brain feels like mush, I have had nine final exams in the past two weeks, and now, it’s over and I am still functioning and feeling accomplished.

This was supposed to be the semester in which you make it or break it, and I can proudly say that I’ve made it. Over the last couple of weeks, I have grown very close to my classmates who have always been there for support. Instead of creating a competitive environment we have grown to support each other to help each other succeed in our courses. It is going to be weird not to see them every day as we all part ways for the summer to work at separate clinic jobs. But we will see each other in the fall to begin our last year together.

I would like to thank our teachers and our lab technicians, who I know were just as tired as we were. They tolerated our questions, our hysterical sleep-deprived laughing with their own good senses of humor. I would like to thank them for putting in the effort and for going the extra mile to make our learning experience the most beneficial as possible. Also, I would like to thank them for their fast grading skills. They have other jobs other than teaching, and they have lives, yet they are grading exams at two in the morning so that we can stress less from waiting.

Over the summer I will apply what I have learned in my new clinic job as a Vet tech assistant. In the fall I will return to school to complete my final year at school for a final effort and will see what the world brings me.
